Rev. Dr. Susan Harlow
Interim Pastoral Leader
The Rev. Dr. Susan Harlow (she/her) joined us June 1, 2023 as our Interim Pastor. Susan is the former pastor at the Peoples Church of Chicago, a multiracial, multi-economic congregation located in the urban neighborhood of Uptown, Chicago, affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association. Susan also served as the executive director of the nonprofit Preston Bradley Center, the Peoples Church’s building built in 1925 that housed a shelter for homeless men, a 6-day a week sit-down free lunch program, visual artists’ studios and art gallery, and a 1200 seat auditorium hosting theater and musical productions as well as community events.
Susan moved to Detroit in 2020, just as the COVID pandemic caused many of us to stay in place, so she is looking forward to getting to know the city in new ways. She is married to Bishop Bonnie Perry and they have 2 dogs, Tali, the Australian Shepherd, and 18-year-old, Owen, a long-haired miniature dachshund. She enjoys sea kayaking, gardening, reading, streaming murder mysteries, and exploring the many neighborhoods of Detroit and southeast Michigan.
